We encourage you to continue with your faithful giving to missions. This enables us to accomplish much for the Kingdom. We provide several ways for you to support missions in addition to your generous offerings. Every 5th Sunday there is a missions lunch after the 11:00 AM service. You can purchase your lunch and join us in the fellowship hall or take it home to enjoy. The cost is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 and under. The menu will be published for each lunch. Also, listed below are three annual events we use to raise money for mission projects throughout the year.
- Our annual Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions.
- Our annual Thanksgiving Dinner Fundraiser for Red Lane Missions.
- Our annual Lottie Moon Ingathering for International Missions.
Five Reasons Lottie Moon Matters
- More than 5,000 IMB missionaries’ ministries depend on Lottie Moon.
- 6,491 people groups are unreached for Jesus Christ; total population 3.7 billion.
- Sacrificial giving enables the church to actively participate in missions.
- Many are responding to the Gospel; more than 400,000 baptisms overseas.
- 100 percent of the offering supports missionaries overseas.
International Missions Projects
In August 2007 we sponsored a team of thirteen to Coro , Venezuela . The team had three daily projects.
In the morning work was done in a reform school for teenage young men. This project included recreation, Bible story and crafts. Two students gave their lives to Christ.
In the afternoon the team conducted a Vacation Bible School in an orphanage. About twenty children were ministered to.
Each evening the team helped to lead youth rallies. Two young men gave their lives to Christ. The church also provided funds for a youth retreat to encourage the teens and college students we have ministered to in both Coro and Punto Fijo.
Our work in these cities has been in conjunction with “The Love of God Baptist Church ” and “The Walking with God Baptist Church ”. Both of these churches were begun by our partnership missionaries Mike and Jan Bennett. Since our trip in 2007, we have been returning to Venezuela annually.
Statewide Missions Projects
Over the past eight summers we have sent a mission team to Norfolk, VA to do Vacation Bible Schools for local churches in that area. We’ve had the privilege of sharing the great news about Jesus Christ with hundreds of children, teenagers, and adults. It is amazing to see how God brings together so many different people within our church to do such an awesome work each summer.
Our 2007 Norfolk Mission Team pictured below had 129 members. 213 children, youth and adults were enrolled in our seven Vacation Bible Schools. We saw forty-seven people give their lives to Christ.
Local Missions
If we’re not doing missions at home, how can God trust us to do missions abroad? Red Lane Baptist Church understands the importance of obedience to the Great Commission, and of God’s call to look after those in need in our own local community. The second Saturday of every month we serve the homeless in Richmond. Twice monthly we do a chapel service at Beaumont Correctional Facility, and each year the youth ministry takes backpacks downtown to provide the homeless with toiletries and other necessities.
National Missions
In recent years there has arisen a need in our country for help recovering from natural disasters. We have a Disaster Relief team trained to provide physical relief and to minister spiritually to those who are suffering. We are continually offering training for anyone interested in this national missions opportunity. This is a missions field that is unpredictable and requires constant readiness. We recently had a disaster relief trip to Bayside Baptist Church in Gulfport, Mississippi planned for the week of March 17, 2007. A team is needed to help with various construction projects. We have ten who have committed to the project. If you have an interest in going or desire more information, please contact the church office.
"I wonder how many times I've missed God's blessings because I didn't take a risk for Him, because I chose the comfortable, less risky or convenient option that allowed me to remain within my secure zone? How often have I allowed security to enslave me? I admit, I'm being stretched, but I'm learning that being a disciple requireds that I don't put conditions on how, when and where I will be obedient. Unlike the first century disciples, I've yet to be faced with loss of life or limb for following Him. Being a disciple to this point has been pretty convenient for me. Recent events have reminded me, however, that God didn't call me to security." --Jason Cox
